I’ve been enjoying a wire craft phase lately—making pieces like DIY Gold Floral Earrings and DIY Wire Monstera Leaf Earrings—and then I spotted a pair of wire-wrapped spiral bead earrings in a little shop. They stuck in my mind: simple, eye-catching, a graceful swirl of wire wrapped around a bead. I couldn’t wait to try them at home.
This tutorial walks you through making your own spiral bead earrings step by step. The design is versatile: change bead colors, adjust sizes, or use different wire finishes to create a look that’s uniquely yours.
The combination of smooth beads and elegant wire spirals creates a timeless, slightly playful effect—perfect for dressing up an outfit or adding a touch of edge to everyday wear.

How to Make Spiral Bead Earrings
STEP 1:
Cut a length of 22-gauge wire and pass it through a large bead, leaving plenty of wire at both ends for wrapping and shaping. Using round-nose pliers, form a small loop at one end. Begin curving the wire around that loop to form a spiral, continuing until the spiral measures about half an inch across.

STEP 2:
Gently press the completed spiral onto the bead so it sits firmly against the surface. This creates a decorative accent and helps hold the spiral in place.

STEP 3:
At the opposite side of the bead, make a small loop directly above the bead’s hole. This loop will act as a connector for the next bead. Wrap the wire around the bead twice to reinforce the loop and secure the wrapping so it grips the bead surface evenly.

STEP 4:
Trim any excess wire, leaving about 2 inches to form a second spiral. Shape this remaining wire into a smaller spiral and press it onto the bead to mirror the first spiral, balancing the design.

STEP 5:
Cut a new piece of 22-gauge wire and form a small loop at one end. Thread a second round bead onto this wire and make another loop on the opposite side. These loops will let you connect the beads together.

STEP 6:
Wrap the wire around the second bead, covering roughly a quarter of its surface. Keep the wraps neat and snug so the wire sits smoothly against the bead.

STEP 7:
Use pliers to curve the wire end onto the bead, refining the shape and improving the overall look. Tuck any sharp ends so they won’t catch on clothing.

STEP 8:
Open the loop of the first bead and link it to the loop on the second bead. Close the loop securely with pliers so the connection is strong and the beads hang evenly.

STEP 9:
Attach an earring hook to the top loop of your assembly. Repeat all steps to make the matching earring. Inspect both earrings for symmetry and make any small adjustments needed.

Your wire-wrapped spiral bead earrings are ready to wear. Experiment with different bead sizes, colors, and wire finishes to create variations—this basic technique adapts well to many styles.
