Chocolate-Glazed Orange Donuts with Zesty Citrus Filling

Chocolate Glazed Orange Donuts

Naturally flavored, moist orange donuts are finished with a dark chocolate glaze infused with orange zest for a refreshingly different breakfast treat.Chocolate Glazed Orange Donuts

Chocolate and orange are one of my favorite flavor combinations—rich chocolate brightened by citrus makes a really satisfying pairing. These donuts capture that contrast: tender, orange-scented cake topped with a glossy chocolate glaze speckled with orange zest.

For extra orange flavor the batter uses orange marmalade and fresh-squeezed orange juice. The glaze is simple—melted chocolate thinned with a little water and corn syrup, then stirred with fresh orange zest so every bite has a bright citrus note. These donuts are best enjoyed the day they’re made, for maximum freshness and texture.

Ingredients

For the Donuts

  • 1 3/4 cups all purpose unbleached flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup butter (melted)
  • 1/2 cup orange marmalade
  • 1/2 cup orange juice (fresh squeezed)

For the Glaze

  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips
  • 2 teaspoons water
  • 2 teaspoons corn syrup
  • 2 teaspoons orange zest

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and prepare your donut pan with nonstick spray.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, salt, and baking powder; set aside.
  3. In a separate bowl, stir the eggs, melted butter, orange marmalade, and fresh orange juice until combined. Add the flour mixture and stir just until combined.
  4. Transfer the batter to a large resealable bag, snip one corner, and pipe the batter into the donut cavities.
  5. Bake at 400°F until lightly golden: about 7–9 minutes for mini pans, 9–11 minutes for medium pans, or 13–15 minutes for large pans. Cool on a wire rack for 15 minutes, then remove from pans.
  6. To make the glaze, melt the chocolate chips in the microwave at 50% power in 30-second intervals, stirring until smooth. Stir in the orange zest, water, and corn syrup. Dip each cooled donut into the glaze and set on a wire rack until the glaze firms.
