As a freelance illustrator, I never miss a chance to add a little art to my kids’ holidays. Sometimes we craft together, sometimes we paint, and sometimes we simply color — which is always a family favorite. My eight-year-old daughter loves when I draw pictures for her to color, so I decided to turn that idea into a fun valentine to give to her friends as well.

We’ve been enjoying organic lollipops and wanted to include them in the kids’ valentines. After talking with my daughter, we agreed a butterfly would be perfect, with the lollipop serving as the head. I drew a butterfly filled with patterns that kids would enjoy coloring, scanned the artwork, adjusted the sizing for the lollipop, added some text, and created the printable. The result is a playful, creative Valentine kids will love.

Download the printable Color My World Valentine and send it to your printer. I printed mine on #110 white cardstock for sturdiness. After printing and trimming the valentines, use an X-Acto blade to make small slits on the top and bottom lines in the butterfly’s center section. Slide the lollipop into the slits, have your child sign their name at the bottom, and they’re ready to hand out. Kids receive both a fun valentine and a little coloring activity!

If you prefer to avoid candy, use the tag without cutting the middle slits. Punch a hole in the corner and tie the tag onto a non-edible gift. Try a small box of crayons, a set of colored pencils, a tiny paint set, or small tubs of play doh as colorful non-candy Valentines this year.
