This healthy peanut butter chocolate protein shake tastes like dessert but works any time of day, thanks to the protein from plant-based powder, powdered peanut (PB2) or natural peanut butter, and almond or other plant milk. You might even convince picky kids to call this “chocolate milkshake.”

I’ve never had a protein shake that actually tasted like a milkshake — until now. It sounds too good to be true, but this recipe is genuinely tasty. If you normally dislike the chalky or artificial flavors many protein powders have, this version masks those notes and comes across more like an indulgent treat than a workout drink.
This is my go-to chocolate protein shake. It’s an easy way to add protein and a few extra nutrients to your day. I often drink it for breakfast, as an afternoon snack, or after a workout. It blends up quickly and feels satisfying without being heavy.
I prefer plant-based protein powders because I react to some dairy-based powders; Plant Fusion is my favorite for this shake. For extra nutrition, stir in a heaping handful of spinach or kale — you won’t taste it, though it will darken the color. I left greens out of the photo so the drink looks more like classic chocolate.
If you try this recipe, I’d love to hear how you liked it. Leave a comment and let me know what you thought!

Description
This healthy protein shake tastes like dessert but is suitable any time of day. Protein comes from plant-based powder, peanut flour or natural peanut butter, and plant milk. It’s a great way to boost nutrition while enjoying something that feels indulgent.
Ingredients
- 1 cup ice
- 1 frozen banana (frozen is essential for the best texture)
- 1 cup unsweetened plant-based milk (almond, cashew, or similar)
- 1 scoop chocolate plant-based protein powder
- 2 Tbsp peanut flour (PB2) or 1 Tbsp natural peanut butter
- 1 Tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 packet stevia (or sweetener of choice, to taste)
Instructions
- Combine all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth. Adjust sweetness or peanut flavor to taste and enjoy immediately.
Notes
For added nutrients, blend in a generous handful of spinach or kale — you won’t notice the flavor, though the color will darken. Use a frozen banana for creaminess, and choose a chocolate plant protein you enjoy for the best flavor.
