Just season your drumsticks with your favourite dried seasoning or rub and pop them in the air fryer. The hot air circulating around the chicken gives you crisp skin without drying the meat. Using an air fryer reduces the amount of oil needed compared to traditional frying.

What is the best cooking method for Chicken Drumsticks?

Oven-baked drumsticks are simple and reliable. An air fryer will cook quicker and produce crisp skin with less oil. Grilling on a BBQ gives great smoky char and is ideal for summer.

How to make an Italian marinade for Chicken Legs?

Making this Italian marinade is quick and inexpensive. Combine the following ingredients and toss with the drumsticks in a large zip bag:

  • Lemon (juice and zest)
  • Garlic (puree or crushed)
  • Dark brown sugar
  • Dried Italian seasoning (typical blends include oregano, basil, red pepper flakes, marjoram, thyme, rosemary, sage and parsley)
  • Olive oil
  • White wine vinegar

There’s no strict order: add everything to the bag, seal and use your hand to rub the ingredients together for a quick, tidy method compared with mixing in a bowl.

Next add the drumsticks, seal and rub the chicken into the marinade so each piece is well coated.

How long to marinate Chicken Legs?

For best flavour, refrigerate the drumsticks in the marinade for 30 minutes to 2 hours. You can cook immediately if short on time; they will still be tasty. Because the marinade contains lemon and vinegar, avoid marinating longer than 2 hours to prevent texture changes.

Place the drumsticks directly on a baking tray—no need for extra oil or foil; the marinade helps prevent sticking.

How long to cook chicken drumsticks in the oven?

Cook in a preheated fan oven at 180°C (200°C conventional / 400°F / gas mark 6) for 45 minutes, turning once halfway to ensure even browning.

How to check if chicken drumsticks are cooked?

Forty-five minutes typically produces cooked drumsticks. For large pieces, check the thickest part with a thermometer; an internal temperature of 165°F / 75°C indicates they are safe to eat.

Chicken Leg still pinkish?

Chicken near the bone can sometimes look pink even when cooked. If the internal temperature reaches 165°F / 75°C, the chicken is safe to eat despite any pink tinge.

Freezing

Freeze leftover cooked drumsticks within two hours of cooking in freezer bags for up to four months. Defrost before reheating.

Reheating

Reheat stored drumsticks until they reach an internal temperature of 165°F / 75°C. You can reheat in an oven or microwave.

Microwave

Cover the container and reheat in one-minute intervals, turning the drumsticks until piping hot throughout.

Oven

Preheat the oven to 400°F and bake the drumsticks on a sheet for approximately 15–20 minutes until thoroughly heated.
